Harry Kane came off the bench to make his Bayern Munich debut but his wait for a trophy goes on as his new team were dismantled by RB Leipzig in the DFB-Supercup.
Dani Olmo bagged a hat-trick as Marco Röse’s side tore the Bundesliga champions apart at the Allianz Arena.
Scorers: Olmo 3′, 44′, (PEN) 68′.
It took just three minutes for Leipzig to move ahead with Bayern failing to clear a free-kick into the box allowing Olmo the chance to slot into the bottom corner from nine yards out.
The Spaniard’s second was a thing of beauty, as he produced a stunning turn to get away from Matthijs de Ligt in the box before poking the ball through the legs of Sven Ulreich to double his side’s lead just before the half-time break.
Youngster Mathys Tel was keeping the centre-forward position warm for Kane after Thomas Tuchel elected to start him up top but it was not his night as he spurned two clear openings to get Bayern back into the game.
Kane was brought into the fray in the 63rd minute but within moments the game was lost as Olmo completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Last year’s DFB-Pokal winners Leipzig begin the 2023/24 season with another trophy on a day where Bayern did everything but score.
Bayern kick off their Bundesliga campaign against Werder Bremen next Friday with Leipzig facing Bayer Leverkusen the following day.
