, Signal Iduna ParkBorussia Dortmund overturned a 2-0 deficit to earn an important draw against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga’s Topspiel on Saturday evening. Leon Goretzka put the Bavarians ahead in the 33rd minute before Leroy Sané extended the lead after the break.

Anthony Modeste was introduced in the 70th minute and proved to be the spark the hosts were missing. The French forward assisted Youssoufa Moukoko four minutes after being introduced before heading home the equaliser with the last chance of the match, sending the home fans into a frenzy.

Moukoko’s goal on the night makes the 17-year-old the youngest scorer in Der Klassiker. After scoring the equaliser, Modeste was still self-critical of his performance but spoke of a positive cohesion within the squad.

The result leaves the top of the Bundesliga table congested with two points separating Union Berlin, Freiburg, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen – the former two play on Sunday.

Both teams were struggling to impose themselves in the opening stages, referee Deniz Aytekin asserted his authority with three players booked inside the opening 15 minutes.

The first chance eventually came in the 30th minute when Raphaël Guerreiro’s shot stung Manuel Neuer’s hands. It was a false dawn for the hosts however, Bayern Munich taking the lead three minutes later.

Sadio Mané released Jamal Musiala. The 19-year-old picked out Goretzka, who was afforded too much time and space before firing a low drive into the bottom corner.Julian Nagelsmann made three changes at the break. Alphonso Davies, Marcel Sabitzer and Serge Gnabry made way for Josip Stanisic, Joshua Kimmich and Kingsley Coman. Edin Terzic brought on Marius Wolf for Mats Hummels which saw Niklas Süle move into central defence.

Wolf was immediately involved with his deflected shot tipped over the bar by Neuer but once again, the pressure was short lived, Bayern getting back on top and extending their lead in the 53rd minute.

Musiala’s deflected pass fell perfectly for Leroy Sane. His powerfully hit shot was met by Alexander Meyer who will be disappointed after being unable to keep the ball out of the net.

The injured Matthijs de Ligt was replaced by Nouassir Mazraoui in the 62nd minute. Two minutes later Musiala’s shot from close range was saved.

Terzic replaced the ineffective Donyell Malen with Modeste in the 70th minute. The 34-year-old was about to play a big role in the result.

Four minutes after being introduced, he latched onto Youssoufa Moukoko’s through ball, returning the favour for the 17-year-old striker who showed poise to find the net.

Modeste then had egg on his face after missing a glorious chance to equalise, getting into position to receive Karim Adeyemi’s cross but unable to connect cleanly from close range.

Kingsley Coman was sent off for a second booking in the 90th minute to set up a grandstand finish. Dortmund threw players forward and were rewarded in the final minute of added time.

Another ball into the box was kept in by Nico Schlotterbeck, the centre-back delivering the ball to the back post where Modeste was on hand to head home in front of the Yellow Wall.
