He revealed this information to the Reading Chronicle, after assessing his injury with the medical team at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The centre-back was always going to be in the thick of the action against Posh, with Saturday's hosts scoring several goals at home in recent games.

That presented the likes of Mbengue and Tyler Bindon with a very difficult task, but it was the Royals' attackers who shone early on, with Harvey Knibbs scoring early on after converting a rebound, before holding off a defender to score his second in the 23rd minute.

Peterborough did have chances throughout the game, but the Berkshire side defended fairly well as a unit, with Michael Craig, Mbengue, Bindon and Jeriel Dorsett all putting in decent performances.

Mbengue was forced off in the second half, but Abraham Kanu slotted in well and put in an admirable display under pressure.

Unfortunately for the Royals, they were unable to keep a clean sheet in the end, with Emmanuel Fernandez scoring in the 96th minute to set up a very nervy finish for the Royals.

But they were able to retain the three points in the end - and the only real downside was the fact Mbengue came off injured.

Ruben Selles provides Amadou Mbengue injury update amid Reading FC worry

It was unclear how badly injured Mbengue's injury was.

He is suspended for Tuesday's trip to Barnsley anyway after picking up his fifth booking of the season, but some fans were worried that he could be out for a longer term after being forced off on Saturday.

Selles confirmed that his injury isn't serious though, telling the Reading Chronicle: "I was with the medical team, and it is a contact injury.

"It is swelling a little bit right now, but we don’t expect any major injury, maybe some days out.

"He is out anyway for the next game so hopefully he will be back for the first game he can be available."

Selles has a decision to make with Mbengue suspended.

Harlee Dean could potentially be available for this game, but it was Abraham Kanu who came on at Peterborough and he could potentially start again.

Kanu is still young though and so is Louie Holzman, who is another potential option in this area, having impressed in the EFL Trophy.

Dorsett could also play in central defence, considering this is his natural position, and the talented Andre Garcia could come in at left-back.

Thankfully, Selles has options, but he doesn't have a huge amount of senior depth.
