MIAMI – Moca FC hosts Real Hope FA in the second leg of the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup Third Place on Tuesday at Estadio Moca 85 in Moca, Dominican Republic.
Real Hope FA enters with a 1-nil lead on aggregate after winning the first leg last week. Stanley Joseph scored the lone goal in the 8’ to place the Haitian side in the pole position. Steeve Mondestin received a red card and will miss the second leg.
Joseph became the fourth footballer born in Haiti to score a goal in a third-place match in a Caribbean club tournament and the second for a domestic club, after Venel Saint-Ford with Don Bosco against Arnett Gardens (JAM) in 2016.
With the first-leg victory, Real Hope ended a streak of two consecutive losses and achieved its first win as a home team. Gooly Elien made four saves to claim his third clean sheet of the tournament.
Moca FC became the Dominican Republic club with the most appearances in third-place matches in a Caribbean club tournament (2) and ended an eight-match unbeaten streak for Dominican Republic clubs against Haitian opponents in Caribbean club tournaments (6W-2D-0L).
Gustavo Ascona is Moca’s leading scorer, scoring three goals and leading the team with five attempts in the first leg. Eduardo Montenegro led the team with two shots on target.
Goalkeeper Miguel Báez and midfielder Jesús Correa will be unavailable due to suspension. Pascual Ramírez stepped in for Báez with two saves in the first leg and only one goal conceded.
The series winner, on aggregate, will win third place in the tournament and qualify for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. Away goals serve as the first tiebreaker in case of a draw on aggregate. Extra time and penalties will be played to determine the champion if necessary.
