Real Madrid secured their place in the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday evening, beating Manchester City 3-1 in Spain and 6-3 on aggregate across the knockout play-off.
The Cityzens had ended the first leg in nightmare fashion as two late strikes saw them arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu needing to overturn a one-goal deficit, but things got even worse during a confidence-sapping first half in Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe put the reigning European champions ahead after just four minutes as he lobbed Ederson, and the Frenchman doubled his tally for the evening just after the half-hour mark to put the tie beyond City's reach.
The 26-year-old grabbed his hat-trick in the second half after drilling in Madrid's sixth across the two legs, before Nico Gonzalez opened his City account with a consolation in the dying embers.
Los Blancos will face either Bayer Leverkusen or city rivals Atletico Madrid in the last 16 and will discover their opponents on Friday.
