Real Madrid have confirmed on their official website that they have allowed Alvaro Odriozola to leave on deadline day to join Real Sociedad. It has been stated that the Spanish defender has parted ways with Los Blancos this summer.

Odriozola’s Growing Frustrations In The Spanish Capital

Odriozola was a sporadic presence in Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad in the previous campaign when he struggled to earn regular game time at the Madrid club. The Spanish full-back made just six appearances for Los Blancos last season but failed to score or create a goal for them across all competitions.

The 27-year-old was often used as a substitute which could be why he only averaged 0.3 shots, 0.7 crosses and 0.7 key passes per game in La Liga (stats via whoscored).

Odriozola’s lack of game time has not done his confidence any good. Hence, Los Blancos seems to have made the right call by letting him leave this summer.

Real Madrid Allow Alvaro Odriozola To Leave On Loan: Good Move For Both Parties?

Odriozola can get stuck in with a few crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition attackers when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He is a decent crosser of the ball as well and can set up some promising chances for others around him from the wide areas.

The Spanish defensive ace can strike the ball well from long range. He mainly operates as a right-back but can also fill in as a left-back if his manager asks him to do so.

There is no denying that Odriozola served as an important member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad over the past few years. He managed to help Los Blancos win multiple trophies during his career at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. However, for the Spaniard to grow as a footballer, he needed to leave the Madrid club in search of more game time in the coming years.

Thus, it was only fair to the player for Los Blancos to cut him loose before the end of this summer transfer window. Ancelotti can now look to re-invest the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen his match-day squad when the transfer window reopens in January.
