Real Madrid winger Brahim Diaz had to be substituted against Real Sociedad in the first half due to a muscle injury in his right abductor. The Moroccan felt discomfort during an attacking move, which he linked up with Kylian Mbappe.

This injury made it impossible for him to continue playing. Eventually, after trying to push through for 25 minutes, Brahim was replaced by Rodrygo. The injury seemed to affect the back of his right thigh, causing noticeable pain.

Brahim had tried to continue by testing himself with short, powerful runs, but his eagerness to impress may have worsened the situation.

Brahim’s injury aggravated

While he attempted to assess whether he could carry on, Carlo Ancelotti prepared Rodrygo to warm up on the sidelines. Rodrygo’s intense warm-up exercises hinted that the substitution was imminent.

Eventually, Brahim succumbed to the injury around the 23rd minute, signalling to the bench that he could no longer continue. The club’s medical staff quickly rushed to his aid as he limped off the field.

Despite some effort to run after feeling the discomfort, Brahim forced himself too much and ended up aggravating the injury.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, the extent of the injury will be confirmed after further tests, which are scheduled for Sunday. Initial indications suggest that the injury is not too serious, though Brahim is expected to miss two or three games for Real Madrid.

Ancelotti, in a press conference after the match, confirmed that his issue is with his right abductor, which will be fully evaluated.

As things stand, Brahim is set to miss Real Madrid’s Champions League opener against Stuttgart on Tuesday. Additionally, he may also be absent for the following La Liga matches against Espanyol and Alaves.

His return will likely be before the derby clash with Atletico Madrid on Sunday, 29th September, but it will depend on how his recovery progresses after the upcoming tests.
