Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Melanie Leupolz from Chelsea Women.
The 30-year-old midfielder secures a move to the Spanish capital, which brings an end to a trophy-laden spell with the Women’s Super League champions.
Having joined Chelsea from Bayern Munich in 2020, Leupolz won four WSL titles and three Women’s FA Cups, as well as one League Cup trophy under former manager Emma Hayes.
The German star also had major success with her country, winning the 2013 European Championship and 2016 Olympics before retiring from international duty.
Leupolz’s departure for Liga F sees her trade leagues with Barcelona pair Lucy Bronze and Júlia Bartel, who are set for an imminent move to Stamford Bridge.
Madrid are looking to upset the monopoly their great rivals have on the women’s game in Spain, and Leupolz is likely to be key player in Albert Toril’s side.
