This past weekend was one to forget for Real Madrid as they stumbled to a disappointing 4-0 hammering at the hands of FC Barcelona.

The humiliating defeat also meant that Carlo Ancelotti’s side now trail the Blaugrana, who sit at the top of the La Liga table, by six points.

While there is still a lot of time left in the season, the result shed light on the deficiencies in the injury-hit Real Madrid squad, highlighting their need for reinforcements in January.

No signings

However, according to AS, despite what went down this past Saturday night, voices from within the Real Madrid offices maintain that there will be no new signings made in January.

The Spanish capital giants have generally avoided mid-season transfers in recent years – Brahim Diaz being the last January arrival at the club back in 2019.

However, the absence of Dani Carvajal and the lack of cover in the centre-back department are major concerns which were further laid bare during the Clasico.

But, as has already been reported, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is not convinced by the idea of bringing in reinforcements in the winter, mostly because of the lack of quality options on the market.

As such, despite the harrowing defeat on Saturday, so far, those at Real Madrid maintain their stance on the transfer plans for January that no reinforcements will be brought in.

Whether that changes in the weeks to come remains to be seen. For now, though, the focus will be on tonight’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, where Vinicius Jr. is expected to walk away with the big prize.
