Real Madrid may have drawn their latest match against Atletico Madrid, but it marked a significant moment in the club’s history. The result meant they extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to an incredible 40 games.

This is now the second-longest unbeaten streak in the league’s history, surpassing Real Sociedad’s impressive 38-game streak after their 3-2 victory over Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu.

What makes this run even more special is the talent driving it. The likes of Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappe have played crucial roles in ensuring that Real Madrid have not tasted defeat for an entire La Liga campaign, spanning the end of last season and the start of this one.

Their resilience and determination have kept the team unbeaten, propelling them to the verge of achieving something truly remarkable.

A detailed look at the record

The last time Real Madrid suffered a defeat in La Liga was almost a year ago, back in September.

It was a 3-1 loss in the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid. Since that setback, Los Blancos have been on a phenomenal unbeaten run, avoiding defeat for 16 months.

Interestingly, Atletico Madrid remain the only team to have beaten Real Madrid during this period, both in La Liga and in the Copa del Rey earlier this year. Aside from that, the last team to defeat them apart from Atletico was Valencia in May 2023.

Real Madrid’s unbeaten run has been nothing short of extraordinary. Over the 40 games, they have recorded 29 wins and 11 draws, scoring a total of 93 goals. These impressive numbers reflect the consistency and strength of the team under Carlo Ancelotti.

Now, Real Madrid are chasing an all-time record set by none other than their fierce rivals, Barcelona. Barcelona’s 43-game unbeaten run, achieved between April 2017 and May 2018, is the milestone that Ancelotti’s side will be hoping to surpass in the coming weeks.
