A 3-0 win in the first leg is usually enough for most teams to secure an aggregate win. But Arsenal will be heading into the second leg tie this week, knowing fully well that they are set to face the might of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Confidence in the Arsenal camp wasn’t boosted by the fact that the club drew 1-1 with Brentford on the weekend.

To make things worse, the Gunners will be without their star midfielder Jorginho against Real Madrid after picking up a nasty blow to his chest in the draw with Brentford. The likes of Ben White and Thomas Partey are also doubts heading into the second leg.

Florentino Perez’s promise to Real Madrid players

Meanwhile, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, aware of Arsenal’s tepid form in the Premier League, has promised his players a juicy bonus if they can pull off a comeback win this midweek.

This is according to SPORT, which suggests that Perez personally addressed the squad after their 1-0 win over Alaves on Sunday.

The Madrid president entered the dressing room at Mendizorroza, stating clearly, “If you win and reach the semi-finals, you’ll receive a reward from the club.”

This is not the first time Real Madrid players have been handed bonuses this season. After knocking out Atletico Madrid in the previous round, players were already rewarded for their efforts.

Now, with another mountain to climb, the promise of another bonus could be just the extra push needed.

The squad’s belief in turning things around has grown in recent days, even more so after the return of Dani Ceballos, who is likely to play a crucial role against his former loan club this midweek.
