La Liga giants Real Madrid are continuing to progress in efforts to bring in one of world football’s most highly-regarded young talents.

The player in question? Franco Mastantuono.

The name of midfielder Mastantuono of course took its place front and centre in the headlines in Madrid for some time earlier this year.

As much comes after reports stemming from the 16-year-old’s home country of Argentina confirmed that the powers that be at the Santiago Bernabéu had identified Mastantuono as a prime target.

Los Blancos are far from the only European heavyweights keen, with arch rivals Barcelona, for one, having been keeping tabs on the River Plate prodigy for some time now, too.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media on Tuesday is anything to go by, then it is indeed Real who are leading the race for Mastantuono.

As per a report from Diario AS, in fact, the La Liga champions are actively working on a deal to sign the Argentine:

‘The operation is underway. And it looks very good. The silence is a sign that things are going according to plan.’

Real, it is suggested, are pushing to close a deal with River Plate for a fee in the region of €25 million.

As part of any such agreement, the midfield prodigy would stay put in his home country for the next 12 months, before making the move to Madrid in 2025.
