Los Blancos didn't start the game with any real fluency, wracking up just four shots and one on target as the two sides managed just 0.09 expected goals combined, the 8th lowest in La Liga since 2011.

But they began the second half much more like their regular selves, with Fede Valverde grabbing the opening goal just five minutes after the interval as he arrowed home a free kick from 25 yards out.

Teenager Arda Güler saw two efforts blocked as they pushed to put the game to bed, while Karl Hein was called into action to keep Kylian Mbappé at bay.

Though they dominated the ball, it was not until the 88th minute that Ancelotti's side found any breathing room, with substitute Brahim Diaz ran onto a perfect long ball from Eder Militao before calmly slotting past Hein and ensuring that their opening day draw was forgotten.

There was even time for Endrick to grab his first goal in Real Madrid colours late on, with the Brazilian having been found by Diaz to fire home a third.
