A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has admitted that he does not envision his playing days lasting much longer.

The player in question? Dani Carvajal.

Right-back Carvajal is of course sidelined long-term at present, owing to a serious knee injury suffered back in October of last year.

The Spanish international is understood to be pushing for a return to competitive action at this summer’s Club World Cup, no doubt eager to play a leading role in Xabi Alonso’s new project in Madrid.

If the latest comments on the part of Carvajal himself are anything to go by, though, then the seasons ahead look likely to be his last at the top level of the game.

Speaking to the media over the weekend, in quotes relaid by Goal, the 33-year-old admitted:

“It’s been a long journey. My sports career is already nearing the end. I hope not, but I have to be realistic.”
