La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Friday been dealt some concerning news on the transfer front.

This comes amid confirmation that a player to have made his way onto the radar of the Blancos brass has picked up a significant injury.

The player in question? Mario Gila.

For those who may have missed it, the name of defender Gila has taken its place front and centre in the chatter in Spain’s capital over the course of recent days.

As much comes after word was forthcoming that the 23-year-old – a former Blancos player – had been identified as a backup defensive target.

Real are of course known to have set their sights on the signature of Lille sensation Leny Yoro, as their priority summer reinforcement.

But, in the case of efforts to bring the Frenchman coming up short, Gila was named as the ideal backup option.

Safe to say, then, that news of the Spaniard being set for a spell on the sidelines will mark a source of concern for those in the boardroom at the Santiago Bernabéu.

As per a report from Diario AS:

‘The Lazio centre-back suffered an injury to his left foot during the pre-season training camp at Auronzo di Cadore, which will keep him out of action for several weeks.’

This issue, for obvious reasons, would complicate a potential return to Madrid for Gila.
