Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has emerged as a transfer target for Saudi Arabia in the final stages of the summer transfer window.

Indeed, as reported earlier this week, Saudi’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) had initiated negotiations with both Real Madrid and the defender’s camp over a possible transfer before the window closes.

Offer rejected

Now, building on that UOLEsporte (h/t Madrid Xtra) reports that Real Madrid have rejected a mammoth offer worth over €100 million from Saudi Arabia for Militao.

Militao has been a permanent fixture in defence for Los Blancos in recent years. The Brazilian, however, missed a large chunk of the last season due to an ACL injury.

While the defender looked a bit scratchy upon returning towards the end of the last season, he showed signs of being back close to his best this week during the UEFA Super Cup clash.

Real Madrid have already parted ways with former captain Nacho Fernandez, who left for Saudi Arabia, and Rafa Marin this summer.

As such, they have no intentions of selling another centre-back, especially considering that David Alaba is still recovering from an ACL injury.

Thus, it does not come as a surprise to see that the offer from Saudi Arabia for Militao has been turned down despite it being a bumper proposal worth more than €100 million.

The Brazilian ace signed a new contract with Los Blancos earlier this year with the deal containing a mammoth €500 million release clause.

As such, if Saudi Arabia, who are also eyeing Vinicius Jr., wish to sign Militao, they will likely have to activate the buyout clause by shelling out half a billion.
