Following a lengthy international break, Real Madrid return to La Liga action as they travel away from home to take on Leganes in match day 14 of La Liga.
The last time Merengues played football, they eased past Osasuna in a 4-0 victory after suffering a 1-3 loss against Milan prior to that.
Since then, the Madrid players have enjoyed a fairly successful international break with their respective national sides and – thankfully – no new injuries came to the fore.
During the break, Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez continued to recover while Carlo Ancelotti tried new combinations at the back, mainly testing Raul Asencio and Fede Valverde as the centre back and right back respectively.
With the defence already weakened and the Liverpool test awaiting, this game against Leganes will give Ancelotti a good chance to test his new tactics.
On the other hand, Brahim Díaz is in line to start this game following his sensational run with Morocco, scoring 5 goals in 2 matches.
Another player who has a good chance to get some minutes is Arda Güler, with the Turk being the standout performer for his national team despite not being able to secure a victory in either of the games.
These two players showcased their skills in during the break and have put the Italian manager on notice to give them the minutes they deserve.
Moreover, Jude Bellingham is enjoying his team with England as the stalwart midfielder secured two assists in a Man of the Match performance against Greece.
It will be interesting to see how Kylian Mbappe responds to the heavy criticism he has received this season, specially after being dropped from the French side as well.
Carlo Ancelotti reiterated the fact that the Frenchman has not asked for a change in position and that his and Vinicius’ position changes throughout the match.
The fans will surely back Mbappe yet again as it is understandable that a player of his caliber goes through a rough patch – but the fans won’t wait for long.
Meanwhile newly promoted Leganes have had an underwhelming season so far, sitting at 14th with just 3 wins in 13 matches.
Real Madrid will look to exploit their backline who have conceded 16 goals and with players such as Mbappe, Vini and Brahim upfront, their job will be even more difficult.
Los Blancos have a game in hand and can narrow down the deficit to just one point, if they win tonight’s and that extra game as FC Barcelona dropped points in a thrilling clash against Celta Vigo last night.
Real Madrid would be eager to continue from where they left off and ensure that there are no hiccups from hereon, while the home side Leganes have a good chance of being the party spoilers.
