The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have set their sights firmly on the signature of Benfica star Álvaro Carreras this summer.
That’s according to Diario AS, who have provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.
It is of course widespread knowledge at that point that Real Madrid are on the hunt for reinforcements at left-back with a view to next season.
Amid the ongoing fitness troubles being endured by the likes of Ferland Mendy and David Alaba, Los Blancos are keen to add fresh blood on the left of their backline at the earliest opportunity.
A number of potential targets have in turn been tipped to make the move to the Santiago Bernabéu over the summer.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, though, then a clear first-choice profile appears to have been identified.
As per a report from AS:
‘Álvaro Carreras (who spent time developing on the books of Real Madrid) is the first option, and the club has been exploring a complex but possible signing for weeks.’
The board in Madrid are understood to be keen to reduce Carreras’ €60 million price-tag by utilising Manchester United as a bridge between themselves and Benfica.
Los Blancos plan to request for the Red Devils to activate their €18 million buyback clause on the 22-year-old, before immediately forking over a sum of €30 – 35 million to bring Carreras back to Spain.
