Pep Guardiola’s side have been fans of the youngster’s profile for several years now and the arrival of cash from Julian Alvarez’s sale placed them well to make an offer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are in a state of transition and will jump into the race if there is even a remote possibility of the Brazilian leaving Real Madrid.

Los Blancos start their new campaign later this week against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup.

It is still unclear if Ancelotti will count on Rodrygo as a starter on the night and how he will look to extract the best from the young forward with the altered dynamic.
