Real Madrid's best and worst players in draw with Mallorca

Real Madrid kicked off their La Liga title defence with a rather disappointing draw away at Mallorca on Sunday evening.

Rodrygo Goes had given Madrid the lead early in the first half, before a towering header from Vedat Muriqi in the second levelled the scores at the Estadi Mallorca San Moix. And while Kylian Mbappe had a few chances to win the game for his new club, it unfortunately wasn't to be and Mallorca held on to secure an impressive point.

Here's our picks for Los Blancos' best and worst players in the draw, and an assessment of Mbappe's performance, according to 90min's player ratings.

Rodrygo - 8/10

There were murmurs throughout the summer that Rodrygo may be the player sacrificed to fit Kylian Mbappe into the starting XI.

Yes, those murmurs were very, very silly.

As was the case in the UEFA Super Cup, Rodrygo started on the right of a front three which included both Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, and once again, he impressed.

The Brazilian got Madrid off to a brilliant start against Mallorca with his stunning curling effort which nestled in the top right corner of the net, and he was a constant threat thereafter too - creating chances for his teammates as well as having a few dangerous pops at goal himself.

Real Madrid's worst player vs Mallorca

Ferland Mendy - 4/10

Look, if you get sent off, chances are you're going to get a pretty low rating from us.

Despite making a few decent recovery runs - even one to deny Muriqi what looked a certain goal - Mendy's rash challenge late in the game rightfully earned him a red card, and has left Madrid worryingly short of defensive options heading into next week's clash with Real Valladolid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Kylian Mbappe watch

7/10

Considering that there was a camera feed totally dedicated to watching Mbappe alone during the game on Sunday night, it's fair to say that all eyes were on the France superstar for his La Liga debut.

Unlike in his European debut for the club in midweek, Mbappe was unable to get on the scoresheet, spurning a few half decent opportunities to net the winning goal in the second half.

His movement and, most importantly, his link-up play with Vinicius and Rodrygo was notably very good throughout the game though so, while he may not have scored, there were plenty of positives to take from Mbappe's performance.
