An insight into the stance of the powers that be at Real Madrid when it comes to the potential signing of Virgil van Dijk has on Thursday been forthcoming online.

And the news will come as something of a blow for those of a Blancos persuasion holding out hope for the Dutchman’s arrival.

Recent days had seen murmurs resurface in the Spanish media, pointing towards a potential move for Van Dijk on the part of the Real brass.

As much comes with the Liverpool star’s contract terms due to come to an end next summer.

As confirmed by Marca, however, no such approach on the part of Florentino Pérez and co. is being planned:

‘Real Madrid are refusing to make any offers regarding the defender they admire and respect, but who is not part of the club’s future plans. What’s more, Valdebebas are not considering Van Dijk as a possible signing for next season.’

Whilst the Spanish champions do remain on the lookout for fresh blood at the heart of defence, their preference is the signing of a younger player with the potential to develop into a reference point at the club for years to come.
