Real Sociedad head coach Imanol has this weekend provided the club’s fanbase with some altogether unexpected positive news on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that Brais Méndez is in line to take to the pitch once more before the season is out.
Méndez, for his part, was announced to have suffered a broken bone in his foot late last month.
The initial prognosis pointed towards the 27-year-old’s campaign as being as good as over, ahead of a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
In turn, it came as nothing short of a shock when, today, boss Imanol revealed that Méndez could link back up with the rest of his squad in training as soon as next week:
“He is taking many steps forward,” the tactician began, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. “He is closer than we thought and he could train next week with the team if everything goes well.”
The news regarding Carlos Fernández, on the other hand, was of an altogether less positive nature, with the attacker having suffered a major setback in his injury recovery:
“You already know what happened. He came from a major injury, but he had had a good period of adaptation and he looked very good in training,” Imanol explained.
La Real’s boss went on to reiterate that Fernández has likely taken to the pitch for the final time this season.
