Real Sociedad set sights on new striker with high price tag

After making Umar Sadiq their record signing just two years ago, Real Sociedad are again on the hunt for a new striker. They have set their sights on Getafe’s Borja Mayoral.

The 27-year-old was in brilliant form until a cruel meniscus tear struck him down in March. He managed 17 goals in 31 goals this season, sharing the Zarra award for the top Spanish scorer in La Liga with Alvaro Morata, both finishing on 15 goals.

However his price tag could get in the way though. Getafe are looking to make a big sale this summer, and Mayoral looks the most likely. President Angel Torres is demanding €25m for him, which no side has come close to, including La Real. Relevo report that somewhere between €15-20m could be enough though. Until Torres lowers his demands though, no deal will go through.

Real Sociedad Sporting Director Roberto Olabe is a big fan of Mayoral, and believes he is the best option for the number nine spot at the Reale Arena. While Mayoral was at Levante, Olabe tried to sign him then, one of several attempts.

Before the end of the season, Getafe were linked with Sadiq as a potential destination, and it would be no surprise to see the Nigerian forward head the other way. With Mayoral, Imanol Alguacil will have to contend with him coming off a serious injury, something that has been a consistent frustration in recent years, with Sadiq, Mikel Oyarzabal and Carlos Fernandez all suffering of late.
