With the January transfer window now fast approaching, many clubs will already have a number of targets in mind, as they prepare for the market to reopen.
This is obviously a key period for any club, as they look to strengthen their squad to give themselves the best possible chance of ending the season in a strong and positive.
But due to the fact that so many others are often looking to do the same thing, there is of course, a good chance that competition will emerge from elsewhere for clubs, as they work to complete a particular signing.
Now it seems as though one individual who could be in such a situation by attracting considerable interest from the Championship, is Hertha Berlin winger Derry Scherhant.
According to reports from Football Insider, there are three Championship clubs currently taking an interest in a deal for Scherhant.
It is thought that Blackburn Rovers had three offers to take Scherhant on loan from Hertha rejected, back in the summer transfer window.
However, the Ewood Park club are now said to be plotting a move to bring the 21-year-old to England, when the window reopens again at the turn of the year.
This time though, they are not alone with that interest, with Ipswich Town and Watford also thought to be keen on a potential move for the German.
But despite that, it seems there is an argument that recent events in the German second-tier, may mean that all three of those sides could be left disappointed in their attempts to bring Scherhant to England, at the turn of the year.
Initially, it had been a quiet start to the season for the winger when it came to action with Hertha Berlin's first-team in the German second-tier.
Scherhant has primarily been starting games for the club's second-team, who compete in the fourth-tier of the German football pyramid.
By contrast, all 11 of the 21-year-old's first-team appearances for Hertha this season prior to the start of December, had been as a substitute.
At that point, a loan move away to the Championship may have potentially made sense for Scherhant, giving him the chance to get the game time and experience needed at a high level for his development, that he was missing out on at Hertha.
That though, has now started to change somewhat, with the winger having now started each of the last four games in all competitions, that have been played by his side's first-team.
As a result, that could potentially force Hertha into a rethink, if they had previously been open to the prospect of a temporary move away for the winger come the turn of the year.
With Scherhant now playing on a regular basis for Hertha as things stand, he is seemingly becoming more important to the club at first-team level.
Consequently, they may be somewhat reluctant to let him leave the club in January, if it could mean them losing out on a player who has the potential to be an asset for them in the second half of the campaign, as they attempt to win promotion back to the Bundesliga.
Beyond that, if the winger is playing and getting first-team experience under his belt with Hertha on a more regular basis, there is going to be less of a need to send him out on loan to one of those Championship sides in order to get that game time.
It is also worth noting that with Scherhant having only signed a contract with Hertha until the summer of 2027 in the summer.
As a result, there is absolutely no need for his current club to let him go anywhere in January, if they do not want him to.
With all that in mind, it therefore seems as though there may be a growing possibility that Blackburn, Ipswich and Watford could be set to miss out on the services of Scherhant even once the window has opened again in January.
In this case though, that may perhaps not be because of the actions in the market of another recruiting club.
