The arrival of Hansi Flick on the FC Barcelona bench brought a lot of expectations and hopes among the Cules. Their expectations were met to the fullest as the German coach unleashed a juggernaut of his Blaugrana team in the first phase of the 2024-25 season.
In this initial phase of the season, the Catalans came quite close to having the best-ever start to a season in the history of the club. However, the defeat to Osasuna stopped Flick in his tracks to reach Tata Martino’s record of having the most consecutive victories at the start of a season.
But this defeat was only a minor blip, as the Blaugranes went on to tackle some of the biggest sides in Europe, and emerged victorious against the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
However, Barcelona have been a far cry from their early season form now, as they have only gotten 8 out of a possible 21 points from their last seven La Liga games.
In fact, as Mundo Deportivo has noted, Flick’s results in charge of the Blaugrana team are now even worse than those of his three predecessors, Xavi Hernandez, Ronald Koeman, and Quique Setien.
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have lost 5 of their 19 games in all competitions this season, thus recording a loss rate of more than 25%.
Xavi Hernandez had lost only 5 of his 38 games in the entire last season, while Flick has already reached this number in around half of these games. In La Liga, Xavi had a loss rate of 15%, Setien 16%, and Koeman 21%. Thus, Flick’s record in this regard is already worse than that of his predecessors.
Still, the team’s performances on the pitch have been up to the expectations of the fans and the board, and there is no doubt that the Blaugranes have been rather unlucky not to get the results. Even Diego Simeone has admitted that Barcelona should be getting better results than they have recently been able to do.
For now, the German coach still has the second half of the season to turn things around, and hopefully, he will utilize the Christmas break to get his team back in form ahead of the second and more crucial part of the season.
