Red Star are reportedly looking to lure Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic to Belgrade, especially since he might be available on a free transfer.

The Austrian has fallen down Simone Inzaghi’s attacking hierarchy following the arrival of Mehdi Taremi.

The former Porto striker is now the main backup for Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. The Iranian is tipped to earn decent playing time this season, but the same can’t be said about Arnautovic.

The former West Ham striker has reportedly agreed to remain as a fourth-choice striker. He has also rejected a move to Genoa.

Nevertheless, Inter are no longer keen to maintain his services. They prefer to offload the veteran and make room for a new arrival both on the wage bill and in the squad.

According to a new report in the Serbian press, the Nerazzurri could find themselves an ally in Red Star.

Sportsport.ba (via FcInterNews) claims the Belgrade-based club is aiming to sign Arnautovic.

The 35-year-old was born and raised in Austria but has Serbian origins. The source notes that the experienced attacker had revealed his desire to end his career at Red Star.

Hence, this could be the perfect timing to make the veteran’s desire come true.

Red Star Interested In Inter Milan Striker Marko Arnautovic

Inter could be even willing to rescind his contract to allow him to sign for the Serbian giants on a free transfer. This would allow the Nerazzurri to rid themselves of the player’s wages.

But speaking of his salary, the source explains that it remains the main obstacle in Red Star’s quest to land the player.

Arnautovic currently earns 3.7 million euros per year, but the Serbian club doesn’t intend to match these figures.

Moreover, the Austria international doesn’t want to relinquish his current contract which guarantees him a handsome paycheck.

So while all parties could be in favor of the move, the finances might not add up.
