Tijjani Reijnders is currently away on International duty, and the Dutchman has expressed his happiness about his current position at AC Milan in a recent interview.

For club and country, Reijnders is indispensable. Milan could not do without him, and partnered with Youssouf Fofana, the club have a fantastic midfield partnership. With the Netherlands, it is largely the same, despite playing in a more advanced role.

Ronald Koeman prefers to get the most from the midfielder in a more advanced role, which has been rarely tried in Italy. However, Reijnders admitted in a recent interview with Ziggo Sport that he was happy playing across the midfield, and his words have been relayed by Pianeta Milan.

“We haven’t trained tactically yet and the final decision [possibly playing alongside Frankie de Jong] will depend on the coach. Of course, that’s what you want: to play for the Dutch national team. It’s up to me to prove in every game that I deserve to be in the starting lineup.

“I could play in all three [midfield] positions, I don’t necessarily have a preference for one position.”

Looking at the bigger picture, the Dutchman also expressed his happiness about his current situation as reports about a new contract heat up, which will surely please the Diavolo. Unfortunately, it probably will not stop the attempts of other clubs, though.

“After the goal against Real Madrid my phone was ringing non-stop. After the game, I received messages from many friends and family. You must not get too carried away, you risk getting excited: that is not my intention,” he admitted.

“I am very happy at Milan [he smiles], it is up to me to continue like this. In Milan I can still walk calmly or have lunch somewhere.”
