In a shocking turn of events, Bayern Munich will reportedly not exercise the purchase option on Benfica loanee Tiago Dantas.

Dantas was signed on loan in the summer but could not be registered for the first-team in time. Hansi Flick did admit that he would be available for selection in January.

Now, a stunning report from Sport1 claims that Bayern Hasan Salihamidzic allegedly has other plans for Dantas.

The midfielder has a €7.5million release clause but the club don’t want to buy the player after the current season ends.

The four-time Portuguese U20 international last sat on the Bayern bench for the first time against Mainz 05. However, with Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Corentin Tolisso already competing for places in the midfield, Dantas would have his work cut out for him.

Considering Flick pushed hard to bring Dantas, this decision would come as a blow for the Bayern boss.

If the report is indeed true, Dantas will head back to Lisbon where he will see out the rest of his contract with Benfica until 2024.
