Arsenal midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly was cautioned for unsporting behaviour while on the sidelines during the 2-2 draw against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.

The 17-year-old made his senior debut for the Gunners during the game, coming on for Jurrien Timber in the added minutes of second-half, but he got yellow-carded in the 65th minute for what he told Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.

The Hale End academy graduate relayed a message from the bench to the Spaniard while trotting behind Raya’s goal line, communicating with the goalie to delay the game before he fell to the floor.

The game was stopped, with manager Mikel Arteta using the opportunity to hold a team talk as the Gunners looked to hold on to their lead after they were reduced to ten players right at the end of the first-half.

The Arsenal coaches had been motioning for calm in Raya’s direction before he prepared to take the goal kick which was then eventually delayed as the medics attended to him.

Lewis-Skelly was willing to risk a booking even before his professional debut as long as it helped the Gunners.

The PGMOL confirmed that his caution was for ‘showing a lack of respect for the game’ under the unsporting behaviour element of the laws, with referee Michael Oliver observing him communicating with Raya.

Unfortunately, the time-wasting tactics did not produce the desired result as Man City left it late to equalise and deny Arsenal crucial three points.

Raya was spotted leaving Etihad hobbling and with a bandage on his leg after the game, confirming he indeed had a fitness issue during the game, and Arteta will hope it is nothing serious.
