Both Liverpool and Manchester City are expected to be in the market for a new left-back.
The Premier League giants have both struggled recently with their left-backs failing to impress.
For Liverpool, Andy Robertson has endured a difficult time in recent matches, particularly against Real Madrid when he conceded a penalty.
Caomhin Kelleher denied Kylian Mbappe to save Robertson from embarrassment but it exposed the Liverpool left-back and showed once again that he is way past his best.
On the other hand, Man City left-back Josko Gvardiol has received criticism for his performance in the Champions League against Feyenoord.
The Premier League champions conceded a three goal lead and Gvardiol was involved in two of the goals his team conceded.
Liverpool and Man City have realised that they need a new addition in the left-back position and according to TBR Football, they both are eyeing a move for Atalanta defender Matteo Ruggeri.
The Italian defender is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.

However, Atalanta have no intention of parting ways with the defender in the January transfer window.
As per the report, Man City are leading the race with interest in the Atalanta star.
The Italy Under 21 international is not only known for his defensive quality but also his passing ability, something that both Liverpool and Man City are looking for in their squad.
The young defender is well suited to the style of football that both Arne Slot and Pep Guardiola have deployed at their respective clubs.
The Premier League clubs would have to shift their focus elsewhere as Atalanta have no intention to sell the defender.
The Premier League leaders Liverpool are also keeping an eye on Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson but they may have to face competition from Man City for him as well.
