With the addition of Mario Hermoso, Roma further strengthened their defense, bringing an experienced, quality centre-back to De Rossi’s orders.

The Spaniard, however, could have already arrived in Italy earlier in the summer, even if a little further south than Rome.

In fact, as reported by Radio CRC, the player had been one step away from Napoli, who had offered up to 4.5 million euros to sign him.

The deal then fell through because Hermoso asked for 5 million euros plus bonuses, and the Partenopei preferred to turn to Rafa Marin instead.

Now, the defender has accepted a salary of 4 million euros (including add-ons) from Roma, lower than what Napoli offered.
