Real Madrid have opened formal talks with Liverpool in an attempt to bring in Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, but have found their first effort rejected. The England defender can also sign a deal for free with Real Madrid to join in the summer.
Alexander-Arnold is keen on joining Los Blancos according to the press in the Spanish capital, and The Telegraph in England say that Real Madrid have had a €25m offer for him turned down. That is backed up by Diario AS, who say their initial suggestion was €10m, but the English outlet also note that they could be willing to increase their offer for him. Liverpool still hope to persuade him to remain at the club, and as such have no intention of accepting an offer now.
Real Madrid appear confident they will get their man sooner or later, but with only Lucas Vazquez as a natural option at right-back for the rest of the season, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are compromised as things stand. Dani Carvajal was ruled out for the rest of the season, and at times the Italian has used Fede Valverde in that spot.
