Manchester City will conclude their payment plan agreement with FC Barcelona over the transfer of Ferran Torres in the coming two years, according to new insight.

Torres was first signed by Manchester City from La Liga side Valencia during the summer transfer window of 2020, recruited on a five-year contract running until the summer of 2025 and worth an initial €23 million transfer fee.

Such was the belief in the player’s long-term capabilities that it was simultaneously revealed that Torres had inherited the club’s iconic number 21 shirt, previously worn by Etihad Stadium legend David Silva – also purchased from Valencia in 2010.

However, having fallen out of favour at Manchester City during the 2021/22 season and largely due to injury concerns, Torres and his representatives finalised an agreement over a move to FC Barcelona for €55 million plus a further €10 million in conditions add-ons.

That deal was confirmed and finalised at the end of December 2021, with Ferran Torres penning another five-year contract running until the summer of 2027, with the deal including a release clause at Barcelona worth €1 billion.

Given the financial issues surrounding the La Liga side, there have been questions raised over whether Barcelona have fulfilled the payment plan agreed with Manchester City, and a new report has revealed the state-of-play around the deal.

According to information brought to surface by finance expert Stefan Borson, FC Barcelona will sanction a payment of €13 million this year, and a further €13 million next year before finally concluding their arrangement for the transfer of Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

During his time with Manchester City, Ferran Torres put together some notable individual performances in a range of roles across Pep Guardiola’s forward line, recording 16 goals and four assists across his 43 cross-competition appearances.

Collective accolades would match as Torres also claimed a Premier League title and League Cup honour in the process, whilst also being part of the Manchester City side that finished as runners-up in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League tournament.
