Nicolo Barella is likely to be back for Inter Milan in their Serie A away trip to Cagliari.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that there is no chance of the Italian international returning against Como.

Inter midfielder Barella is currently on the sidelines with a thigh problem.

This is the 27-year-old’s second spell out with a thigh injury. However, the Gazzetta reports, it is nothing more than a “slight elongation.”

Therefore, a return is already in sight for Barella.

Barella was out of the Inter squad for yesterday’s Coppa Italia match against Udinese after medical tests confirmed his injury.

However, the 27-year-old was never set to start that match anyway.

Inter’s next match is just a few days away. They host newly-promoted Como in Serie A on Monday.

Barella will not be able to be in the squad for that match.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will hardly want to take any risks with the Italian international’s fitness by rushing him back that quickly.

However, the Gazzetta report, the next match should be fine for Barella.

Inter’s last match of 2024 is away to Cagliari, Barella’s old team. And the Italian international should be able to feature in that match.

Meanwhile, against Como, the Gazzetta report that one of either Davide Frattesi or Piotr Zielinski will start.

It is Italian international Frattesi who is the favourite in that respect, reports the Gazzetta.
