Ricardo Peláez: Chivas will look internally to cover stricken JJ Macías | OneFootball

Ricardo Peláez has admitted it will be “difficult” for Chivas to find a replacement after José Juan Macías sustained a season-ending injury.

The 22-year-old ruptured his cruciate ligament in training on Thursday, just two days before the start of the Flock’s 2022 Apertura campaign.

An official statement from the club stated that the striker will be out for up to nine months.

It is a hammer blow for Los Rojiblancos, particularly as they have so little time to find solutions in the transfer market.

“Hard. The injury of a player is always sad, but when planning to form a squad and specifically for this tournament, both quantity and quality are important to generate sports competition,” director of football Peláez said to TUDN when asked about the situation.

But he insisted that they try will look internally to solve the problem, rather than rely on a late addition.

“We are ready. We have been working without the hope or possibility that someone else would arrive, except for Orbelín [Pineda] who was latent, but with JJ’s injury we have to see within the club itself,” Peláez said.

Macías scored four goals in 11 Clausura games (including play-offs) after his year-long loan deal with Getafe was cut short in January.
