Declan Rice says Arsenal could have scored ten as they defeated north London rivals Tottenham to close the gap at the top of the Premier League table to four points.

Gabriel and Leandro Trossard turned the match in Arsenal’s favour after Heung-min Son had given Tottenham a surprise lead.

The result is a much-needed boost for Arsenal, having been knocked out of the FA Cup against Manchester United on Sunday as well as losing to Newcastle in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

And speaking to TNT Sports after Arsenal’s win over Spurs, Rice described the first-half performance as “pure domination”.

“That meant more than anything. From the first minute, the first 45 minutes, it was pure domination. You could tell it was a derby,” Rice said.

“To be honest with you, I think we were unlucky we probably didn’t score 10 tonight. I think that’s the feeling.

“I think in the second half, the game got stretched and they could have maybe scored a couple but we could have had another five or six and that’s the disappointing thing.

“But to win is the most important thing and hopefully now we can go on a run because this is the most important part of the season.”

Mikel Arteta handed another start to 18-year-old Myles Lewis Skelly who continues to impress at left-back.

And Rice singled the youngster out for praise, touting him for big things in the future.

“The young boy Miles is just unbelievable,” he said. “For 18, what he showed tonight was just ridiculous.

“It’s scary. The 18-year-olds now have got no fear. They’ve got no fear whatsoever.

“He’s got that Mousa Dembele trait. I’m not just saying it. But where he uses his body to get away from stuff and sometimes it’s risky, but to show that at 18 and the personality and character, honestly it’s unbelievable.

“He’s a midfielder by trade. He can play six, he can play eight, obviously he’s come into the team playing left-back.

“To know these roles and to understand what he’s learning now at 18 is unbelievable. It’s only going to stand him in good stead.”
