Benjamin Pavard reached the level required for Inter Milan in yesterday’s dramatic 2-2 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight how the Frenchman came back to haunt his former club Bayern.

There were few Inter players for whom a Champions League quarterfinal tie against Bayern meant as much as Benjamin Pavard.

The Frenchman decided to leave Bavaria to join the Nerazzurri in 2023. He had pushed for the move.

Therefore, going out to Bayern would certainly have been particularly bitter for Pavard.

But it was not Benjamin Pavard who will have felt any sort of bitterness yesterday.

Rather, Bayern will have particularly wished they’d had the 29-year-old back in their ranks.

While the Bavarians’ backline looked shaky, decimated by injuries, Pavard put in an outstanding display at the back.

The Frenchman kept Bayern winger Leroy Sane very quiet. And when he had to do some last-ditch defending, he was excellent in Inter’s penalty area.

Meanwhile, Pavard also scored his first ever goal for the Nerazzurri.

There could hardly have been a more narratively significant moment in which to do so for the former Bayern defender.
