The Royals are now under new American ownership.
Rob Couhig has sent his first message to Reading FC supporters since completing his takeover of the club on Wednesday.
Redwood Holdings Limited, led by Couhig and his business partner Todd Trosclair, officially became the new owners of the Royals this week after a long, painstaking wait for a change of ownership.
Former custodian Dai Yongge was ordered to sell the club after the EFL disqualified him as an owner/director. They were threatened with expulsion from the football league if he didn't find a solution in time, but, after many deadline extensions, the takeover was finally confirmed on 14th May.
Now that the sale has gone through, Couhig, an American lawyer, entrepreneur and former owner of League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers, has been made the chairman of the club and has issued his first statement to the Royals' faithful.
In an email sent out by the club to season ticket holders, Couhig thanked the Reading fans for their unwavering support of the club in the face of so much adversity, claiming the club, as we know it, may not exist anymore were it not for them.
He also said that he is ready to demonstrate his ambitions for the club, but, more importantly, given the recent history at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, his transparency and fiscal care too.
"As a first step of introducing ourselves to the supporters of Reading Football Club, I want to thank you as a season ticket holder for your unequivocal support of this magnificent institution," said the 76-year-old.
"It is fair to say that without your support, both financially and emotionally, this club of yours might well have ceased to exist. In spite of it all, your continued support allowed the club to continue and showcase a quality product on the pitch, both at first team level and Academy, and keep hold of a group of highly qualified and dedicated staff both on the pitch and off.
"Your loyalty will be remembered.
"In the next week, we will begin to put forward our plans for the Club. I think you will find that we are ambitious but governed by our commitment to honesty, transparency, and financial sustainability.
"Without getting too far ahead of myself, I think you will find that the steps we will take over the next few weeks and thereafter are guided by the question of whether it adds value to the Club, the experience, and its supporters.
"Todd, Amy, Missy, and I look forward to meeting you in person - and we're excited for the journey ahead!
"Most importantly - Up the Ding!"
Part of the announcement of Redwood's takeover was to reiterate to supporters that "honesty, transparency, and financial sustainability," will be key to their tenureship. How nice must it be for Reading supporters to hear that their owner is going to be open, honest and responsible about how they manage the club, given what they had to deal with before that?
