Flamengo’s Rodrigo Caio has reportedly not asked for a contract extension or an increase in salary, despite claims indicating otherwise.
According to the player’s agent, Nick Arcuri, the Brazilian defender was approached by the club, not the other way round.
“Flamengo came to us last year to say that they would like to extend Rodrigo’s contract,” said Arcuri. “In their minds, Rodrigo can be a long-term project, not just as a player.”
Negotiations were put on hold as Caio continued his recovery explained Arcuri.
“He [Caio] requested to stop discussions and we will talk again when he is well,” he said. “We will have find the right time to talk.
“We didn’t apply any pressure, we remained focused on the athlete’s recovery.”
The Brazilian defender is currently under contract until the end of 2023 and is expected to play a key role for Paulo Sousa’s side this season.
