Rodri Sánchez backs struggling Barcelona forward to resurrect faltering career

It came as quite a surprise to many people when talented Spaniard Rodri Sánchez left Real Betis to join Al-Arabi in Qatar but he has since gone on to become a star in the league and has established himself as a key player for his team.

Rodri Sánchez was once a part of the Barcelona academy in La Masia and had even been linked with a return to the club at some point. He has played with some of the players who are currently a part of the first team here including Ansu Fati.

Fati had been a star all through his ranks in La Masia and broke into the first team at a very young age. He was a very highly rated young talent and a bonafide star in the making. He was the Lamine Yamal of Barcelona much before Lamine actually emerged.

Ansu’s career has since been curtailed by multiple serious injuries and inconsistency ever since. He is still at Barcelona but has hardly gotten a game in recent times under Hansi Flick with the German leaving him out of the matchday squad on occasions.

Rodri Sánchez was quizzed about Ansu’s situation and his future, considering he has played with him in the past, and as quoted by SPORT, here is what he had to say:

“Ansu is a very young lad who has had a couple of serious injuries and bad luck once he came out of surgery. Ansu has tremendous quality and an ease in front of goal, but after injuries, it is very difficult to regain that confidence and even more so if you don’t have enough minutes to show your worth.”

“Ansu is a great person and a great player who will surely return to performing at a high level, even if it is very difficult due to the competition at the club and the few minutes he has had to date.”

The biggest issue with Ansu Fati is even when an opportunity is afforded to him, he seems to be devoid of the confidence that once made him an excellent player back when he was a teenager. Flick doesn’t seem to be extremely happy with the way he is training either.

The only silver lining, if any, in Ansu’s career is that he is still just 22 years old and still has a long time left in his career to resurrect it and become the player everyone envisioned him to become. It seems highly unlikely that it will happen at Barcelona though and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
