Rodrigo Caio is of paramount importance for Flamengo’s defensive system and this is no secret for anyone who follows the club.
The 28-year-old has been absent for seven weeks but should return to the pitch on Sunday when Flamengo take on Palmeiras at Allianz Parque.
The last time Rodrigo Caio featured was during matchweek 13 of the Brasileirão, when Flamengo routed São Paulo 5-1.
Without the player, Flamengo have only allowed eight goals and earned five clean sheets – against ABC (twice), Sport, Grêmio, and Santos.
Furthermore, the Rubro-Negro have been scoring at will, posting 30 goals in those 10 matches – an average of three goals per game.
Without a doubt, Rodrigo Caio should solidify Flamengo’s back line. Whether Gustavo Henrique, Léo Pereira, or Bruno Viana features alongside him is anyone’s guess.
