Chelsea and Napoli are getting closer to an agreement for Romelu Lukaku according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and ex-Blue Mateo Kovacic.

Whilst Enzo Maresca will be looking for an improvement in Thursday’s Europa Conference League game against Servette, there’s a lot of work still to be done in transfer market.

Chelsea and Napoli getting closer to Lukaku agreement

The Blues are desperate to offload Lukaku and bring to an end his nightmare second spell at Stamford Bridge, with the Belgian set on a move to Napoli which would see him reunite with Antonio Conte.

The clubs are yet to reach an agreement and the move is made more complicated by the fact Napoli need to move on Victor Osimhen, who Chelsea are interested in.

However, Romano has provided a positive update and reported that Chelsea and Napoli are getting closer to reaching an agreement for Lukaku.

He took to X.com and said:

“Understand Romelu Lukaku and Napoli are getting closer. Official bid on the table. Club to club talks now into key stages as Chelsea decision is clear: Lukaku and Osimhen, SEPARATE topics. Full focus on selling Lukaku, then Osimhen story eventually for final days.”

Lukaku has spent the past two seasons on loan at Inter Milan and Roma and is thought to have a £38m exit clause in his contract, which Chelsea are thought to ideally want in full.

It’s been reported that Napoli aren’t prepared to pay the clause and they are believed to have offered around £25.6m, and to be honest if the Blues have to compromise slightly in order to get his wages of over £300,000 per week off the books then it’s worth doing.

Lukaku isn’t the only striker Chelsea are looking to offload with the club also looking to sell both Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana but nothing has materialised on that front yet despite interest in the pair.
