Manager Ruben Amorim has included three academy stars in Manchester United’s travelling squad for the Europa League round of 16 first-leg clash with Real Sociedad.
Goalkeepers Elyh Harrison and Dermot Mee have been selected as back-ups to first-choice Andre Onana due to injuries to Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.
Described as ‘superb’ by Chester boss Calum McIntyre, Harrison has been in the matchday squad for the past four consecutive league games.
By contrast, Mee has not been in the first-team matchday squad since the league game against Everton at Old Trafford last season.
The two shot-stoppers are expected to be named among the substitutes, as Onana will be named in the starting line-up.
Talented left-back Harry Amass has also made the trip. He was on the bench twice during the league phase and has been in the match squad on four other occasions this term.
Amorim is unlikely to hand Amass his debut as Patrick Dorgu is back in the squad. Dorgu missed Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round loss to Fulham due to suspension.
Youngsters Jaydan Kamason, James Scanlon, Jack Fletcher, Jack Moorhouse and Hubert Graczyk trained with the squad today but did not travel to Spain.
Centre-back Ayden Heaven has also travelled. He made his first-team debut against Fulham and could feature against Real Sociedad due to Harry Maguire’s injury.
United have been handed a massive boost due to the return of English midfielder Toby Collyer, who returned to team training and has travelled.
Chido Obi will not be involved as he was excluded from the revised ‘A’-list squad for the knockout phase.
The 18-man list includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, four midfielders and three forwards.
Andre Onana, Dermot Mee, Elyh Harrison.
Harry Amass, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Victor Lindelof, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro.
Casemiro, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes.
Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee.
