Mohamed Salah recently spoke with Sky Sports about his ambitions and leadership within the club as he faces a pivotal season. In this in-depth conversation, Salah shared personal insights into his motivations, team dynamics, and his desire to secure a lasting legacy at Liverpool.
For the first time in his career, Salah prioritised winning the Premier League above the Champions League. He told Sky Sports, “The first thing on my list was to win the Premier League with Liverpool. I usually say Champions League, but this time I really want to win the Premier League.” Salah’s motivation stems partly from Liverpool’s previous title, which was celebrated under lockdown restrictions, leaving an emotional gap in the club’s triumph.
Salah emphasised his growing leadership role at the club, saying, “I think now I’m more talking to the guys than before. I try to understand their emotions because this is a big part of the game.”

Liverpool’s transition from Jurgen Klopp to Arne Slot has brought changes to the team’s dynamics. Salah commented on how the tactical shifts under Slot have impacted his role on the pitch: “I defend less. He doesn’t want to believe it, but fine! The way we play is completely different now.”
Salah also noted the importance of adapting strategies based on the opponent. He explained, “We stuck to what we were doing for seven, eight years. The manager now changes things slightly depending on the game.”
Despite Klopp’s departure, Salah confirmed they remain in touch, sharing, “We text from time to time. We’ve texted in the last three months more than in the previous seven years.”
Salah has embraced a mentorship role within the squad. He described how he uses his experience to guide younger players like Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz: “I need to help them improve because you can’t win anything alone. They need to be calm and express themselves to help the team win trophies.”
This newfound responsibility is part of Salah’s evolution as a leader. He explained, “I used to lead by example – being the first in and last out of the gym – but now I talk to players more and try to understand them.”

With his contract uncertainty looming, Salah was candid about his future at the club: “So far, yeah, it’s my last six months. There’s no progress, so we just need to wait and see.”
Sky Sports’ contributors highlighted Salah’s incredible stats this season, noting that only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have had comparable numbers in previous Premier League campaigns. Salah responded humbly: “I saw it online, but the most important thing is to win the Premier League and be a big part of it. I want people to say, ‘He made the difference.’”
When asked about his potential legacy as Liverpool’s greatest player, Salah acknowledged the weight of that discussion: “It’s in my head, but people will never agree on one player. Being part of that conversation is something I’m very proud of.”
Salah’s focus remains on securing another title with Liverpool. As he said, “We’ve won almost everything, but only once. Winning it twice would be great.”
Liverpool fans will be watching closely as Salah leads the charge for another Premier League title. Whether it’s his last season at Anfield or not, Salah’s impact on the club is undeniable.
