Free agent Santiago Arias had been linked with a move to Manchester United this week but any potential transfer seems unlikely at the moment.

The Peoples Person had reported that United were looking to snap up the free agent with Erik ten Hag keen to add competition for the right-back slot.

The Dutchman has so far preferred to use Diogo Dalot in that position with Aaron Wan-Bissaka only getting a rare chance as a substitute in the Liverpool game.

Throughout the summer, it was rumoured that the Englishman would in fact leave after being displaced by the Portuguese right-back.

He was, in fact, named as a substitute in United’s last game against Real Sociedad but was seen in the directors’ box during the match.

Dalot had managed to break into the starting lineup under interim manager Ralf Rangnick with the German preferring the Portuguese for his attacking forays.

It’s clear to see that he is a clear favourite of Ten Hag. His contract with the Red Devils is set to expire next season but United do have the option of extending it by a further year.

Sergino Dest was rumoured to be joining the club but ended up joining AC Milan on deadline day after the club failed to make a bid.

According to Pipe Sierra through Sport Witness, a number of lawyers and agents who are involved in the decision-making behind the right-back are ‘not in dialogue or negotiations with the Red Devils’.

This casts a doubt on any potential story linking the Colombian international to the club on a free transfer.

However, this doesn’t completely rule out a transfer as Arias is ‘free to negotiate on his own’ with no club close to signing the player as of now.

United are in need of backup in that position after Ethan Laird ended up joining QPR on loan for the rest of the season.

Arias could solve those problems but it remains to be seen if United actually end up making a move for the Colombian.
