Racing Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo is set to replace Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman on the 23-player U.S. women’s national team roster for the upcoming friendly matches vs. Nigeria.
Rodman will not attend the training camp due to a family commitment, propelling DeMelo’s first senior call up. The midfielder has seen a great start with Racing Louisville during her rookie season, scoring three goals and one assist in 17 regular-season appearances and earning NWSL’s Rookie of the Month for July.
DeMelo has represented the United States in several youth sides, serving as a member of the American teams at the 2016 and 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cups.
She now joins the squad that lifted the Concacaf W Championship under head coach Vlatko Andonovski.
“All the players on the roster performed well in Mexico at qualifying and have carried that form for their clubs, so we’ll continue the process of growing as a team with this group in what will be two challenging games against Nigeria,” said the head coach when announcing the original roster.
Crystal Dunn will also return to the national team stage, joining camp strictly for training after giving birth to her son Marcel on May 20.
The USWNT will host Nigeria on September 3 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, and then again three days later at Audi Field in Washington D.C.
