According to Sky Germany, Schalke 04 are close to signing FC Copenhagen striker Emil Højlund.
The 19-year-old marksman is the brother of Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund, who joined the Premier League outfit for €74 million last summer. As well as this, Oscar Højlund, Emil’s other brother, recently joined fellow German side Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported €1.5 million.
However, it is understood that the fee Schalke will pay to the Danish giants is not even close to that of Frankfurt’s €1.5 million. The report states that Die Königsblauen have agreed to sign Højlund for a fee well under €500,000.
Nevertheless, a transfer is still not yet complete, with the 19-year-old yet to agree personal terms with the 2.Bundesliga side. Regardless, the deal is close to completion, and the expectation is that the move will be made official in the near future.
Schalke are prepared to offer Højlund a contract until at least 2028, as they consider the youngster to be their ideal long-term striker. Despite significant interest from a number of European clubs, such as VfB Stuttgart, the Royal Blues were able to convince the 19-year-old about their project.
