Manchester City have been told to pay €40m if they want to sign Schalke midfielder Sebastian Rudy.

City have been scouring Europe looking for a replacement for Fernandinho and having missed out on Frenkie De Jong last week have now turned their attentions to the Bundesliga.

A story in the Sun on Monday has indicated that Schalke would be willing to sell the 28-year-old, but only as long as Pep Guardiola’s side stump up the asking price of €40m.

The reigning Premier League champions are thought to be weighing up the offer but could use the German side’s interest in teenager Rabbi Matondo as part of the deal.

Matondo is seen as one of the City academy’s brightest prospects but is looking to leave with his pathway to the first team blocked by the likes of Leroy Sané and Raheem Sterling.

The Gelsenkirchen outfit have already had an €8m bid for the Wales international rejected by City, but the Sun believe the Citizens could go back to the Veltins Arena and try to include Rudy in a deal for the 18-year-old.
