Brown remains the only manager not to have lost to Celtic this season, after his Ayr United side earned a 1-1 draw in early pre-season at the beginning of July. Granted that was a Celtic squad side, with most of the Celtic B team involved and many of the regular starters for the first team still not back in training after summer football at the likes of Euro 2024 and Copa America.
But that draw remains the only blemish on the Celtic record this season in a winning run following the trip to Somerset Park that includes victories over the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, theRangers, Hibs (twice), Hearts and Slovan Bratislava.
St Johnstone have also been linked with Larne boss Tiernan Lynch and Aberdeen coach Peter Leven, who impressed while doing the caretaker role at Pittodrie and is now an assistant to Jimmy Thelin, but according to Stephen McGowan at Scottish Daily Mail, the former Celtic captain is now the cat front runner for the vacancy.
Bookies also have Broony as their joint favourite alongside the highly rated former Raith Rovers manager Ian Murray, who recently quit his post at the Kirkcaldy side. Perhaps the mystery surrounding that decision could be linked to the vacancy emerging in Perth?
Scott Brown’s Ayr United side sits top of the Championship and could be heading for the Scottish Premiership for the first time since the mid-1970s under the guidance of the legendary Celtic captain who cut his management teeth down at Fleetwood Town on the North west coast of England.
If St Johnstone can agree a deal their new manager could be in the dug-out this weekend at McDiarmid Park. As things stand, that’s looking like it’s going to be Scott Brown shaking hands with the Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.
