Since returning to the Championship in 2015-16, the Robins have failed to break into the top six, with numerous mid-table finishes.

If this is to be the year, they will have to have a strong transfer market and so far they have made some decent additions. The 21-year-old duo of Sinclair Armstrong and Fally Mayulu could both be big hits at Ashton Gate, but Liam Manning will understand, given their age, they will have to be given time.

Some more experienced additions may be useful then, and they will be desperate to bring some new signings in before their game against Hull City on the 10th of August.

With this in mind, at Football League World we have detailed two potential arrivals before the season begins for Manning's side.

Scott Twine

First up, we have Scott Twine, who has been heavily linked with Bristol City over the course of this summer.

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Ashton Gate, the Burnley attacker impressed Manning enough for the Robins to enter talks with the Clarets about a possible deal.

This won't be easy, however, with Scott Parker's side demanding £5 million for the 25-year-old, whom they signed from MK Dons in 2022.

At £5 million, this deal isn't feasible. However, a loan could be arranged, with the latest reports from Bristol Live stating that the Robins would be willing to take him for a season again.

If they are able to do this, then the player side of the deal should prove a formality, with Manning a big fan of the forward.

For the City head coach, Twine will be the exact sort of player he is looking to bring in, with previous experience of promotion from the Championship. In addition, his ability to feature anywhere from attacking midfielder to centre-forward means that they have the ability to play different systems at will.

Whether it's a permanent transfer or a loan deal, Bristol City will benefit significantly from signing such a talented individual. If he can replicate his form from his time at MK Dons, they will have acquired a major goal threat and could be set for an exciting season.

Bosun Lawal

With Matt James and Andy King both leaving the club this summer, City may look to bolster their midfield options, and Celtic's Bosun Lawal is a player that should be on their radar.

The 21-year-old was linked to a trio of Championship clubs earlier this year, but news had gone silent until AFC Bournemouth, Stoke City and RB Salzburg were recently reported to be keen on the player.

Celtic are supposedly willing to let him leave, and the Robins should join the pursuit for Lawal.

Last season, the Irishman spent the campaign with Fleetwood Town, where he was the shining light in midfield for a poor team.

Across 42 games, he ranked among the top 15% of players in League One for duels and aerial battles won, according to FotMob. Likewise, his dribbling and accurate long-ball ability were both very strong, as he came in the top 25% against other engine room operators.

In a similar vein to Twine, he can play in numerous positions and was originally brought into Fleetwood as a defender. For Manning, this versatility would be a massive bonus, and it feels like a signing the Bristol City hierarchy should be pushing to make.

Of course, competing with the likes of RB Salzburg and the Cherries won't be easy, but the Robins' ability to offer first-team football could be a crucial factor.
